Emmanuel Dennis has returned to the Brøndby first-team squad after completing his rehabilitation programme and making his comeback in a friendly against IK Sirius, Bold Sports reports.

The Nigerian forward has played 11 official matches for Brøndby this season and scored once. He made his return on Friday, coming on during the second half of the training match at Vestegnen. His comeback gives head coach Thomas Nørgaard another attacking option as Brøndby prepare for their 3F Superliga campaign.

Dennis earns another chance at Brøndby

Dennis joined Brøndby during the winter under former head coach Steve Cooper. He arrived after spending six months without a club.

The 28-year-old has experience with Nottingham Forest, Club Brugge, FC Köln and Watford. However, his time in Denmark has not developed as expected.

During his absence, Dennis trained away from the group. He also worked through an individual rehabilitation programme before returning to full team training.

Nørgaard explained the steps behind the player’s return.

“He got the things he needed done in the rehabilitation program we had sent him on. We assessed that he needed some one-on-one. More than what you can get in an in-house setup at a club. He took on that, as we had expected and asked him to.”

The coach also praised Dennis for completing the required work after the transfer window closed.

“And with an open transfer window, we also knew that there was a possibility that he wouldn’t stay here. Then it closed. Now he’s here. He’s back, training like the others, making an effort, and today (Friday, ed.) he had reached a point where he could get 30 minutes.”

Nørgaard demands more from Nigerian forward

Dennis still needs time to fully adapt to Nørgaard’s methods. The coach said he offered the forward extra guidance during his 30-minute appearance.

“I shouted at him a bit. Mostly to get him to fit into the team context. There’s no doubt that he’s an individualist who’s been away for a while.”

Nørgaard added that Dennis received additional support because he remains behind some teammates in understanding the team’s principles.

“So he hasn’t achieved all that on our principles like the others. So he got a little extra help and love, and I think his pulse was high when he played this half hour.”

Dennis remains in contention

Nørgaard confirmed that Dennis now competes on equal terms with the rest of the squad.

“Yes, if the players are considered good enough and fit enough to play, then sometimes we have too many, and then some have to be sorted out. Other times it works out. If you recommend yourself, you get into the match squad. That also applies to Dennis.”

Dennis remains under contract with Brøndby until the summer of 2028. His return could now give him an opportunity to rebuild his position within the squad and contribute during the club’s upcoming fixtures.
