Tobi Amusan missed out on a historic third consecutive Commonwealth Games women’s 100m hurdles title as she settled for the bronze medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Thursday.
The world record holder endured an unusually slow start in the final and was unable to recover in time to retain the title she won in Birmingham four years ago. She crossed the finish line in 12.60 seconds to secure a place on the podium.
The race produced a major upset as The Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton stormed to victory in 12.33 seconds to win the gold medal, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds claimed silver with a time of 12.41 seconds.
Amusan had entered the final as the overwhelming favourite and was aiming to become the first woman to win the Commonwealth Games women’s 100m hurdles title three times in succession.

The 29-year-old had strengthened her credentials in the heats after producing a sensational wind-assisted 12.19 seconds, the fastest time ever recorded at the Commonwealth Games under any conditions. However, she was unable to replicate that performance in the final, leaving her to settle for bronze.
Despite missing out on gold, Amusan’s podium finish added another medal to Team Nigeria’s tally at the Games.
Nigeria have now amassed 16 medals in Glasgow, comprising eight gold, five silver and three bronze medals, as the country’s athletes continue to impress across multiple events.
