Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan will face Olympic champion Masai Russell and reigning world champion Ditaji Kambundji in a high-quality women’s 100m hurdles field at the Weltklasse Zürich Diamond League meeting on August 27, Bold sports reports.
The race at the Letzigrund Stadium will bring together the event’s world record holder, Olympic champion and world champion, alongside Grace Stark, Devynne Charlton and Nadine Visser.
The six confirmed athletes currently occupy the leading positions in the women’s 100m hurdles world rankings, setting up one of the strongest fields assembled in the event this season.
Amusan remains the world record holder following her 12.12-second performance in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. She later won the final to become Nigeria’s first world champion in athletics.
The 29-year-old has shown encouraging form during the 2026 Diamond League campaign, clocking 12.28 seconds to win in both Rabat and Paris. She will arrive in Zürich seeking another major victory as she continues her pursuit of a fourth Diamond League title, having won three consecutive trophies between 2021 and 2023.
Amusan also has fond memories of the Letzigrund Stadium. She won there in 2022 in 12.29 seconds, breaking the meeting record previously held by Gail Devers for 22 years.
However, Russell is likely to provide the Nigerian with her sternest challenge.
The American Olympic champion has produced an outstanding 2026 season, highlighted by her 12.14-second performance in Xiamen, the second-fastest time in history and only 0.02 seconds outside Amusan’s world record. She has also claimed victories and meeting records in Eugene and Monaco.
Kambundji will enjoy the backing of the home crowd following her historic victory at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.
The Swiss athlete stunned a strong field to win the world title in a national record of 12.24 seconds, becoming Switzerland’s first outdoor world champion. Amusan took silver in 12.29, while Stark claimed bronze in 12.34 and Russell finished fourth.
That result adds another layer to the Zürich contest, with Amusan and Russell both seeking to turn the tables on Kambundji in front of her home supporters.
The field also features Bahamian world indoor record holder and three-time world indoor champion Devynne Charlton, alongside World Championships bronze medallist Grace Stark and 2026 World Indoor silver medallist Nadine Visser.
With the leading contenders separated by only fractions of a second, the race could also place Amusan’s four-year-old world record under renewed pressure.
Zürich is the 14th and penultimate meeting of the 2026 Diamond League season before the two-day final in Brussels on September 4 and 5. Additional athletes are expected to be confirmed before the meeting.
