‎Bendel Insurance have completed the signing of central defender Adeleke Adekunle David on a one-year contract as the club continues to strengthen its squad for the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, Boldsports report.

‎The Benin-based club confirmed the defender’s arrival in an official announcement, revealing that the former Abia Warriors player has joined as part of its defensive reinforcement plans. The move comes after Adekunle’s contract with Abia Warriors expired at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

‎Adekunle, who turned 24 on July 27, stands 5 feet 11 inches (1.80m) tall. He joined Abia Warriors in August 2025 after spending the entire 2024/25 season without a club.

‎During his spell at Abia Warriors, the central defender made only two appearances before becoming a free agent at the end of the season. His experience and defensive qualities will now add depth to Bendel Insurance’s backline ahead of the new campaign.

‎The signing of Adekunle is another indication of Bendel Insurance’s intention to bolster their squad before the new NPFL season. He becomes the latest player to make the switch from Abia Warriors after midfielder Suraj Lawal also signed a one-year contract with the Benin club earlier in the transfer window.

‎The club announced the transfer with the following statement:

‎”We’ve secured the signature of Adeleke Adekunle David. The solid Central Defender is in Benin for 1 year contract.

‎The former Abia Warriors defence strongman is a part of our defence reinforcement plan for the new season.

‎Let’s Welcome Adeleke Adekunle to Bendel Insurance family.

‎Adaaa Bendel!”

‎With the new NPFL season approaching, Bendel Insurance continue to reshape their squad through targeted recruitment. The arrival of Adeleke Adekunle, alongside fellow former Abia Warriors player Suraj Lawal, reflects the club’s commitment to building a stronger team capable of competing consistently in the league.
