Yasin Ayari described his FIFA World Cup debut as an emotional experience after scoring twice in Sweden’s 5-1 victory over Tunisia. The Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder opened and closed the scoring in Monterrey as Sweden made a perfect start to their campaign.

‎The 22-year-old has grown into an important player for Sweden in recent months and delivered one of the standout performances of the tournament’s opening round. His brace helped silence doubts surrounding the Scandinavian side and underlined his increasing influence in the national team.

‎Ayari chose not to celebrate after scoring the first goal of the match just seven minutes in. His father, Azzouz Ayari, is Tunisian, and the midfielder admitted that facing Tunisia carried special meaning.

‎”It’s incredible, a feeling you can’t describe,” Ayari said after the game.

‎”You’ve dreamed of a lot, but this is something you never dreamed of. It was very emotional to play against Tunisia, who I feel so much for.”

‎The midfielder eventually celebrated after scoring his second goal in stoppage time, another impressive strike from outside the penalty area.

‎Sweden’s attacking display was completed by goals from Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres as they secured a comfortable 5-1 win over Tunisia to top their group after the opening round of fixtures.

‎Ayari also praised the belief within the Swedish squad following their emphatic victory.

‎”When no one believed in us, the whole group came together and believed in us,” he said.

‎Sweden will now aim to build on their impressive start when they face the Netherlands in their second group match on June 20.
