Igoh Ogbu, three other Nigerians win Czech First League title with Slavia Prague

Slavia Prague, home to Nigerian players Igoh Ogbu, David Moses, Samuel Isife, and Mubarak Suleiman, clinched the 2025/26 Czech First League title with a dominant 5-1 victory over Jablonec on Wednesday.

It marks Igoh Ogbu and David Moses’ second league title with the club. For Samuel Isife and Mubarak Suleiman, it is their first taste of silverware with Slavia Prague.

It also means that Slavia Prague have won the league for the 23rd time, and the second straight season. The feat sees them qualify directly to the 2026/27 Champions League league phase.

Slavia Prague were totally dominant against Jablonec, taking the lead 14 minutes in through Stepán Chaloupek’s goal. Samuel Isife extended the host’s advantage with his first goal for the club in the 37th minute.

Mojmír Chytil made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute, wrapping up a clinical performance in the first half.

Slavia Prague continued their rampant display in the second half. Tomás Holes netted the team’s fourth just four minutes after the break. Stepán Chaloupek then got his brace in the 56th minute, making it 5-0.

Jablonec eventually found a consolation goal with their only shot on target in the 63rd minute, as Eduard Sobol scored to make it 5-1. After then, Slavia Prague pulled their foot off the gas, making several substitutions as they strolled to victory.

The champions have two more games to play this season. They will face Hradec Kralove on Sunday before hosting Viktoria Plzen in their final match on May 24.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES DURING THE 2025/26 SEASON

Due to injury issues, Igoh Ogbu struggled for regular league action this season. However, he started the club’s last seven games, scoring once. Overall, he made 15 appearances in the league, with Slavia Prague losing only once in those matches.

David Moses was also crucial for Slavia Prague. The midfielder played 25 league matches, recording one goal and three assists. He leads in the team for tackles per 90 (2.70), and is fifth for interceptions per 90 (1.50).

Samuel Isife, who joined Slavia Prague in January, made 13 league appearances. The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season at Dukla Praha, where he featured in 17 league games.

Teenage midfielder Mubarak Suleiman has also enjoyed an amazing debut season in Czech Republic. After impressing for the club’s youth sides, the 19-year-old scored his first senior goal eight minutes into his debut for Slavia Prague.

He then made his first start one week later and provided an assist. Since then, the midfielder has been in and around the senior team. Overall, he made six league appearances.
