The third edition of The Athletics School Games (TASG) got underway on Friday, March 20, at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, with the primary school category opening the competition.

Pupils from more than 20 schools competed across a range of track and field events, as parents turned out in large numbers to support the young athletes.

TASG, endorsed by World Athletics and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), continues to provide a structured platform for athletes aged 4 to 16, focusing on talent development and early exposure to competitive athletics.

Founder Dr. Seun Akinbohun said separating the primary and secondary categories has improved the organisation of the competition, while new events have also been introduced.

She expressed satisfaction with the growth of the initiative and reaffirmed her commitment to sustaining it.

Parents and officials praised the enthusiasm of the athletes, noting that the competition provides a proper athletics experience while building confidence and competitive discipline.

Beyond competition, TASG continues to promote values such as respect and fair play through initiatives like the Kashopefoluwa Sportsmanship Award, which recognises athletes and schools that demonstrate integrity and discipline.
