Former Didier Drogba has reacted to an emotional tribute by Galatasaray S.K. supporters for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen during their UEFA Champions League clash with Liverpool F.C..

‎Before kickoff at RAMS Park, Galatasaray supporters unveiled a large tifo banner dedicated to Osimhen and his late mother.

‎The display, which featured artwork of the Nigerian forward alongside an image representing his mother, created a powerful atmosphere inside the stadium.

The tribute visibly moved Osimhen during the pre-match lineup, with the striker seen wiping away tears as he looked toward the stands.

‎Osimhen has previously spoken publicly about losing his mother at a young age while growing up in Lagos, making the gesture particularly meaningful for the 27-year-old.

Following the tribute, Drogba – a former Galatasaray striker who helped the club win the Süper Lig title in 2013 – shared the moment on social media while sending a message of encouragement to the Nigerian forward.

‎The Ivorian legend described Galatasaray supporters as an “army of lions,” a phrase often associated with the club’s passionate fan base.

‎ “Told you you have an army of lions with you. Condolences and stay strong my brother.”

‎Osimhen has frequently cited Drogba as one of his football idols, and the two have built a strong relationship over the years.

‎Despite the emotional buildup to the match, Galatasaray delivered a strong performance on the pitch.

Midfielder Mario Lemina scored the decisive goal in the seventh minute, securing a 1–0 victory for the Turkish side in the first leg of the Round of 16 encounter.

The result gives Galatasaray a narrow advantage heading into the return leg at Anfield, where Osimhen and his teammates will aim to complete the job against Liverpool.

‎For the Nigerian striker, the night in Istanbul not only highlighted the support he enjoys from the club’s fans but also strengthened the emotional bond between him and the Galatasaray faithful.
