FA Cup: Nigerian players discover fifth round opponents

Several Nigerian players have discovered their opponents for the fifth round of the 2025–26 FA Cup, following Monday’s draw which set up eight intriguing ties to be played over the weekend of March 7 and 8.

With the competition edging closer to its crucial stages, attention is already turning to a round packed with exciting clashes and potential upsets.

The draw confirmed that Fulham, boasting Super Eagles trio Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze and Calvin Bassey, will welcome Championship side Southampton to Craven Cottage. The London club will be keen to make home advantage count as they chase a place in the quarter-finals.

Mansfield Town, featuring Victor Adeboyejo, will face the toughest task of the round against Premier League leaders Arsenal. Mansfield eliminated Burnley in the last round and they’ll be aiming to extend their remarkable cup journey against one of England’s elite sides.

Elsewhere, Tolu Arokodare will be in action as Wolves go head-to-head with Liverpool. The Nigerian striker, who has impressed in cup competitions this season, will be hoping to deliver again in what is expected to be a fiercely contested encounter.

Arthur Okonkwo’s Wrexham are also set for a daunting challenge after being drawn at home to Chelsea. The Championship side have already captured headlines with their cup exploits, but overcoming the Premier League giants will require another inspired performance.

In the remaining fixtures, Port Vale or Bristol City will host Sunderland, Manchester City travel to Newcastle, Leeds United entertain Norwich City, while West Ham take on either Macclesfield or Brentford.
