Trabzonspor center-back Chibuike Nwaiwu has expressed the team’s disappointment following their 3–2 home defeat to Fenerbahce in a crucial Turkish Super Lig clash on Saturday.
Both sides entered the encounter needing a victory to close the gap on league leaders Galatasaray, but it was the visitors who emerged victorious, with Marco Asensio netting the decisive goal in the 48th minute of a pulsating contest.
Trabzonspor made a bright start, taking the lead through Ernest Muci in the sixth minute. However, Fenerbahce responded swiftly, with Anderson Talisca equalising in the 15th minute before Kerem Aktürkoğlu put the visitors ahead in the 34th minute.

Paul Onuachu restored parity just before the break, heading home in the 43rd minute to make it 2–2, but Asensio struck three minutes into the second half to seal the win for Fenerbahce.
The result sees Fenerbahce reduce Galatasaray’s lead at the top of the table to three points after 22 matches, while also moving seven points clear of Trabzonspor. The defeat leaves Trabzonspor 10 points behind the leaders, dealing a significant blow to their fading title ambitions.
Reflecting on the loss, a visibly disappointed Nwaiwu admitted the team gave their all but fell short on the day.
“We tried to give our best, but football is like that – sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We fought hard, but unfortunately it didn’t go the way we wanted,” Nwaiwu said after the match.
“I hate losing. I kept replaying that moment in my head. I wanted to reflect and relive the atmosphere on the pitch to help myself regroup.”
