Atlético Madrid secured a commanding 4-0 first-leg win over FC Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semifinals, with Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman scoring and providing an assist.

Atlético capitalised on early defensive errors to gain control. The hosts opened the scoring when Eric García’s own goal came just seven minutes in, followed by Antoine Griezmann doubling the advantage in the 14th minute.

Despite being two goals up, Atlético maintained pressure and created several opportunities before Lookman put the game beyond doubt in the 33rd minute, finishing a brilliant team move with composure to make it 3-0.

Just before halftime, he provided a precise assist to Julián Álvarez, who smashed the ball into the net for the fourth goal, leaving Barcelona’s comeback hopes very slim.

Speaking to Sporty TV after the match
, Lookman shifted the focus from personal achievements to team performance. “It’s nice to score, but I think the performance of the team was top tonight,” he said. “Both boxes we were clinical and we showed togetherness today and that was impeccable.”

The Nigerian international, who netted his first home goal in the competition, also highlighted the role of fan support. “We got the energy from our fans tonight as well. They were amazing, so I am glad to be here” he added.

When asked about scoring against a team like Barcelona, Lookman kept his focus on attacking duties and timing. “You always want to score as an attacker. You always look to score.

“You look to get into dangerous positions and I just try to be there in the right moment at the right time.”

With a commanding 4-0 advantage from the first leg, Atlético now turn their attention to the second leg, aiming to maintain focus and discipline. Lookman’s influence in attack and his insistence on teamwork underscore his pivotal role in Simeone’s squad as they chase the Copa del Rey final.
