Ivory Coast and Manchester City legend Yaya Touré has named Nigeria’s Super Eagles as one of the teams that impressed him the most at the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Bold Sports reports.

The 2015 AFCON winner, who closely followed the tournament, also praised Morocco’s hosting capabilities. The Atlas Lions finished as runners-up in the competition, making their third AFCON final appearance, but narrowly lost 1–0 to Senegal in a dramatic finale.

Speaking on the Bleacher Report Football Podcast, the Ivorian great singled out Nigeria as the most impressive team at the tournament, citing their overall play and attacking prowess.

“I was impressed by Algeria, but unfortunately they got knocked out by Nigeria,” Touré told BR Football. “I was also impressed by Morocco. Their head coach, Walid Regragui, is very pragmatic and very direct with his counter-attacks. But I was really impressed by Nigeria.

“Nigeria played good football. When you look at the stats, they scored more than usual. Full strike, full attack – they were the most impressive team for me. The football they played, the goals they scored, and the quality of players they have.

“They had two former African Footballers of the Year in their team. They put in some wonderful performances but, unfortunately, were knocked out by Morocco in the semi-finals.”

Aside from the Super Eagles, Touré also named DR Congo as one of the teams that caught his attention at the tournament.

“DR Congo were good as well. They were knocked out by Algeria. I think the Ivory Coast team was very young and, at times, a bit naïve, but that’s part of footballing experience,” he added.

Nigeria went on to claim the bronze medal at AFCON 2025, defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties after regulation time ended goalless.
