The Super Falcons will learn their group stage opponents for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Thursday, 15 January, when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conduct the final draw in Rabat, Morocco.

The draw, scheduled for 14:00 local time, will mark a historic milestone for the tournament, as it will feature an expanded 16-team format for the first time. Hosts Morocco will be joined by Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia in the competition.

Nigeria, Africa’s most successful women’s national team, will head into the draw as defending champions. The Super Falcons are aiming to retain the title they won in dramatic fashion in 2025, when they staged a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco in the final and secure a record-extending 10th continental crown.

Meanwhile, the draw ceremony will coincide with the announcement of three outstanding CAF women’s football awards. CAF is expected to unveil the winner of the CAF Women’s Coach of the Year award, for which Nigeria head coach Justin Madugu and Flamingos coach Bankole Olowookere are both nominees.

In addition, the continental body will announce the winners of the CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year and the CAF Women’s Club of the Year awards.

These honours were initially slated to be presented during the 2025 CAF Awards but were postponed due to the CAF Women’s Champions League, which ended two days after ceremony.
