Côte d’Ivoire captain Franck Kessié has underlined the Elephants’ readiness ahead of their opening match at the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, stressing that the defending champions have prepared thoroughly to meet the demands of the tournament.
Speaking on the eve of the clash with Mozambique, Kessié made it clear that the squad has embraced the responsibility that comes with being champions and has worked deliberately toward being fully prepared.
“That’s normal. We are a team everyone wants to beat, and that inevitably brings extra pressure. But we took that into account from the start of our preparation. We know what it represents and we have worked to be ready to handle that responsibility,” Kessie told the press.

The midfielder explained that Ivory Coast’s approach has been centered on overall readiness rather than focusing only on matchday tactics. According to him, the team’s work has gone beyond the pitch to ensure they are mentally and physically set for the challenge ahead.
“We worked on every aspect – technically, mentally and physically. The goal was to be ready not only on the pitch but also off it. In a competition like AFCON, mental management and team cohesion are just as important as tactical work.”
Kessié added that the atmosphere within the squad reflects confidence and focus, noting that preparations for the opening fixture have gone smoothly. He assured supporters that the group is ready to give everything from the start as they begin their quest to retain the continental crown.
