Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been nominated for the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award following another stellar year for both Nigeria and Galatasaray, Bold Sports reports.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the nominees on Wednesday for the 2025 CAF Awards, scheduled to be held in Marrakech, Morocco, for the third consecutive year.
Osimhen’s nomination comes after an incredible season on loan at Galatasaray, where he fired the Turkish giants to a domestic double, winning both the Super Lig and Turkish Cup. The Nigerian striker netted 37 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions, cementing his status as one of the most lethal strikers in world football.
For Nigeria, Osimhen has remained the heartbeat of the Super Eagles’ attack, scoring vital goals in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. Most recently, he grabbed a hat-trick in Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over Benin Republic, a result that kept the team’s qualification hopes alive.

The 26-year-old faces tough competition for Africa’s top individual prize, with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah among the frontrunners after leading the Reds to the 2024-25 Premier League title, where he also claimed the Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards.
Another strong contender is Achraf Hakimi, who enjoyed a treble-winning campaign with Paris Saint-Germain, including the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and French Cup, making him one of the favourites for the crown.
Other nominees in the category include Frank Anguissa (Cameroon), Fiston Mayele (DR Congo), Denis Bouanga (Gabon), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea), Oussama Lamlouhi (Morocco), Iliman Ndiaye (Senegal), and Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal).
