Rasheedat Ajibade and Jennifer Echegini featured for Paris Saint-Germain Féminines. Still, they could do little to prevent a heavy 4-0 defeat against Wolfsburg in their UEFA Women’s Champions League (Women’s UCL) opener on Wednesday.
Both Super Falcons stars started the game, yet PSG’s campaign got off to a nightmare start when Jackie Groenen turned the ball into her own net in the seventh minute. Ella Peddemors doubled the advantage just before half-time in the 42nd minute.
Wolfsburg sealed the result late on, with Alexandra Popp making it 3-0 in the 90th minute before Janina Minge converted a penalty in stoppage time to complete the rout.

It was a frustrating night for the French side, who registered 16 shots, six of which were on target, but failed to score. In contrast, the hosts were clinical, netting four of their five shots on target from 12 total attempts.
Echegini lasted 79 minutes before being replaced by Florianne Jourde, while Ajibade made way for Ornella Graziani in the final minute of regulation.

It was also a disappointing start for other Super Falcons stars in the competition. Rinsola Babajide and Shukurat Oladipo’s AS Roma suffered a 6-2 hammering at the hands of Real Madrid, while Christy Ucheibe’s Benfica fell 2-1 to Juventus on Tuesday.
After Matchday 1, both PSG and Roma sit outside the automatic and playoff qualification spots in 15th and 16th place, respectively, while Benfica occupies the 12th position on the table.
