Striker Paul Onuachu has expressed disappointment over Trabzonspor’s 1-1 home draw against Samsunspor in the Turkish Super Lig, stating that his team deserved all three points from the encounter.

Onuachu gave the hosts the lead in the 16th minute with a powerful flying header, his second goal of the season, but their hopes of maintaining a perfect record before the international break were dashed when Chadian forward Marius Mouandilmadji struck an equalizer in the 88th minute.

The Nigerian international, who was substituted in the 82nd minute for Daniyo Sikan, admitted frustration with the result but insisted Trabzonspor were unlucky not to claim victory.

“It was a game we actually deserved to win. Overall, we played a good game,” Onuachu told the press after the match.

“We had some opportunities that could have sealed the win. If we had taken advantage of those chances in the second half, we could have finished the match earlier and closed it out. That’s football. Unfortunately, we only got one point.”

Onuachu also explained that his substitution was a tactical decision prompted by fatigue.

“It was a tactical change. I put in a lot of effort in the first half, and due to fatigue, the coach decided to substitute me. Of course, I understand people expect me to score a lot of goals. I contribute both with my fighting spirit and my goals. My priority is always to help the team,” he added.

The former Southampton and Genk striker was not included in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda in Uyo and South Africa in Bloemfontein.
