Remo Stars will take on Comoros side US Zilimadjou in the preliminary round of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, while Rivers United will face the top club from the Democratic Republic of Congo, yet to be determined.
The draw for both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup was conducted on Saturday at the Azam Media Studios in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, featuring a record 62 elite teams from across the continent.
Remo Stars and Rivers United will represent Nigeria in the continent’s premier club competition, having finished first and second, respectively, in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The two-legged preliminary round will be played on the weekends of September 19–21 and 26–28, 2025. Winners will progress to the Second Preliminary Round scheduled for October 17–19, with the return fixtures taking place a week later, from October 24–26.
This marks Remo Stars’ third appearance in the CAF Champions League preliminary round. The Ikenne-based side has yet to progress beyond the opening stage in their previous two attempts but will be aiming to rewrite that record this time.
Both Nigerian clubs will be pushing to advance to the second round and, ultimately, secure a place in the lucrative group stage.

Remo Stars have already moved to bolster their squad for the new season, signing experienced Nigerian striker Victor Mbaoma, who has featured in the CAF Champions League with NPFL giants Enyimba and Rwandan outfit Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (APR).
Should Remo Stars make it past US Zilimadjou, they will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the next phase of the qualifying rounds. The South Africans were drawn bye in the preliminary round.
