WNBA franchise Phoenix Mercury have waived D’Tigress center Murjanatu Musa to make room for veteran forward and two-time WNBA champion DeWanna Bonner.
The Mercury announced the decision on Tuesday.
Musa had joined Phoenix’s final roster in May after an impressive showing during training camp, arriving fresh from a stint with French side Tarbes-Gescès Bigorre.
During her time with the Mercury, the 25-year-old Nigerian made 12 appearances, averaging 3.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 0.6 assists, and 0.3 steals in 10.2 minutes per game. She had received accolades from her coach and teammates for her impressive performances.
The move has been met with mixed reactions from fans, many of whom had grown fond of Musa’s energy and athleticism on the court.

A key player for Nigeria’s D’Tigress, Musa is expected to be one of the team’s standout performers at the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket, scheduled to hold later this year in Ivory Coast.
