New Real Sociedad sporting director Erik Bretos has opened discussions with the representatives of Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq regarding a potential move away from the club this summer.
Umar Sadiq recently returned from a loan spell at Valencia, where he scored five goals in 23 appearances and played a key role in helping the club avoid relegation, finishing 12th in La Liga. Despite his contributions, Valencia opted not to activate their €9 million purchase option.
According to reports, the 28-year-old Nigerian forward has been deemed surplus to requirements, with the club eager to offload him and bring in a more productive replacement ahead of the new season.

Sadiq’s time at Sociedad has been marred by injuries, particularly a serious cruciate ligament tear that sidelined him for 45 games. Since his return, he has struggled to recapture his pre-injury form, managing just four goals in 50 appearances since his €20 million move from Almería in 2022.
Although he has been called up to join Real Sociedad’s preseason training on July 7 under new head coach Sergio Francisco, the club’s management is keen to finalize his departure as a priority this summer. Sadiq still has three years remaining on his current contract.
