Kiki Iriafen has been named the WNBA Rookie of the Month after a string of impressive performances for the Washington Mystics in May.

Selected fourth overall in the first round of the 2025 WNBA Draft, Iriafen has quickly established herself as one of the league’s standout rookies this season. She has scored in double figures in every game she has played, including a season-high 20 points on a very efficient 9-of-11 shooting in the Mystics’ recent loss to the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night.

In May, Iriafen made history by recording four consecutive double-doubles, becoming the first rookie in Mystics history to achieve that feat.

She edged out top overall pick Paige Bueckers and her Mystics teammate Sonia Citron to win the monthly honour, both of whom have also delivered strong performances this season.

While receiving the award, Iriafen expressed gratitude to her teammates for their support and assistance.

“I didn’t even know this was a thing,” Iriafen said in a video shared by the Mystics on social media. “But I really want to thank you guys. Being on this team feels like perfect timing with the perfect people. You’ve helped me rediscover the love and joy I have for basketball.”

“I truly couldn’t have won this without you all giving me the ball. I appreciate every one of you. I love being your teammate, and it really does feel like a family here. Let’s keep winning.”
