Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel is being considered by French Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais as a possible replacement for outgoing right-back Lorenz Assignon, who is set to join Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart.
Assignon is on the verge of sealing a move worth over €13 million after an impressive season with Rennes, where he scored four goals and provided five assists in 34 appearances. His departure has left a gap on the right side of Rennes’ defense — one the club is now looking to fill.
Osayi-Samuel, 26, is currently with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe and has attracted attention from several French clubs in recent months. According to French media, Rennes have reignited interest in the versatile Nigerian, who can play both as a right-back and a winger. He is valued at around €6 million.
The Super Eagle, capped 22 times, has grown into a dependable presence for both club and country, admired for his pace, strength, and ability to drive forward. With Rennes eyeing a return to Europe and needing a dynamic option on the flanks, Osayi-Samuel fits the profile the club is looking for.
Rennes are also considering other names including Bayern Munich’s Sacha Boey (on loan), Freiburg’s Kiliann Sildillia, and free agent Valentin Rosier, but Osayi-Samuel’s availability and all-round skill set make him one of the standout candidates.
A move to France would mark Osayi-Samuel’s first stint in Ligue 1, having previously played in England and Turkey.
