Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored an impressive brace to lead Galatasaray to a thrilling 3-0 win over Trabzonspor at the Gaziantep Stadium, securing their 19th Turkish Cup title and their first since 2019.

Osimhen had played a key role in Galatasaray’s journey to the final, netting both goals in their hard-fought 2-1 quarter-final win against Fenerbahçe, and contributing a goal and an assist in the commanding 5-1 semi-final victory over Konyaspor.

Galatasaray, however, needed to defeat a determined Trabzonspor side aiming to go one better after finishing as runners-up last season, having lost the cup to Besiktas. The match also featured Osimhen going head-to-head against fellow Nigerian Anthony Nwakaeme, who was eager to mark his return to Trabzonspor with silverware.

Galatasaray wasted no time in taking control of the cup final, as Yunus Akgün’s cutback picked out Baris Alper Yilmaz, who fired home a superb first-time strike to put his side ahead in the fifth minute.

Victor Osimhen took command in the second half, showcasing his immense strength to muscle a defender off the ball before finishing from a difficult angle to extend the lead to 2-0.

Just minutes past the half-hour mark, Osimhen struck again — netting his second of the match and 35th of the season — as he capped off a superb counter-attack to put the result beyond doubt and seal Galatasaray’s victory.

The victory marks Osimhen’s first piece of silverware with Galatasaray and his fourth official career title, adding to his triumphs at the U-17 World Cup and U-23 AFCON in 2015, along with the Serie A in 2023.

The Nigerian striker has also shattered a 24-year-old record held by Mario Jardel, becoming the first foreign player in Galatasaray’s history to score 35 goals in a single season.
