Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are set to take on South Africa’s Amajita in the semi-finals of the FIFA U20 AFCON, with the exciting clash scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 15, at the Suez Canal Stadium in Egypt.
The Flying Eagles booked their place in the semifinals by overcoming the defending champions Senegal in a penalty shootout following a hard-fought 120 minutes that ended goalless. The victory also guaranteed their qualification for the U20 World Cup, which will be held in Chile from September 27 to October 19, 2025.
On the other hand, South Africa’s Amajita defeated DR Congo with Thabang Mahlangu’s goal in extra time following another goalless encounter, earning them a place in the semifinals and one of the four automatic World Cup qualification spots.
The Flying Eagles will be competing in the AFCON semifinals for the 17th time, while South Africa’s Amajita will make their fifth appearance, having finished as runners-up in 1997, fourth in 2009 and 2017, and third in 2019.
Nigeria, who are seven-time champions and have a rich history in the tournament, will be eager to add another title to their collection, while South Africa will be aiming to make their own history and claim their first-ever U-20 AFCON crown.
The highly-anticipated showdown will kick off by 6:00pm local time and after then, the second semifinal between Morocco and tournament hosts Egypt will get underway by 9:00pm at the 30 June Stadium.
