Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has included captain Ahmed Musa in the squad for the Unity Cup tournament, set to take place in London from May 26 – 31, 2025 according to Kano Pillars.

The highly-anticipated tournament, dubbed “The Best in the West – The Afro Classico Contest,” will see Nigeria’s Super Eagles face off against West African rivals, Ghana’s Black Stars for a place in the final against either Trinidad & Tobago or Jamaica.

Ahmed Musa has been in excellent form for Kano Pillars this season, recording 8 goals and 2 assists in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL). Although he was initially named in Eric Chelle’s first 39-man provisional squad for the World Cup qualifiers, he did not make the final cut of 23 players.

Reports indicate that Ahmed Musa will be joined by about 12 players from the NPFL, as Eric Chelle looks to use the tournament as an opportunity to assess the quality of top domestic players in preparation for key upcoming matches for the Super Eagles.

Eric Chelle’s decision to include domestic league players in the Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup further underscores his commitment to integrating Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) talents into the national team setup.

This approach aligns with his previous selections for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where he incorporated NPFL players such as Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole and Niger Tornadoes midfielder Papa Daniel Mustapha into the final 23-man squad.

Nonetheless, Ahmed Musa and the rest of the team will be aiming to claim the Unity Cup title in London as they look to build on Nigeria’s strong legacy in the competition, having emerged champions in the previous edition held in 2004.
