Nigerian defender Chibuike Nwaiwu played the entire match on Thursday as Wolfsberger AC made history by winning the Austrian Cup for the first time, marking what is regarded as the greatest achievement in the club’s history.

The 21-year-old played a crucial role in Wolfsberger AC’s journey to the final, leading the defense and finding the net in both the quarter-final and semi-final to help set up a high-stakes showdown against Hartberg in the final.

Although Nwaiwu was booked in the 41st minute of the final, he maintained composure and stayed solid at the back, contributing to a clean sheet before Angelo Gattermayer netted the decisive goal in the 77th minute, securing a memorable cup triumph.

Wolfsberger AC’s Austrian Cup victory sealed their spot in next season’s Europa League, but they still have a shot at qualifying for the Champions League if they win the league, where they currently trail leaders Austria Wien by just three points with four games remaining.

Their next challenge will thus be to claim another crucial victory when they face Rapid Wien at the Allianz Stadion in two days time.

With two goals and an assist in the league this season, Chibuike Nwaiwu has been a standout performer for Wolfsberger AC and will be eager to help his team make more history by pushing for the league title.
