The first leg of MTN CHAMPS Season 3 wrapped up in Benin City with dominant performances across multiple categories, as Government Model, Delta Secondary School, and Vision High emerged as the standout teams of the competition.
In the Cadet (U14) Girls’ division, Delta Secondary School topped the standings with 50 points, holding off Ado Girls (33 points) and SAM-KAY (20 points) for the title.
The Cadet Boys’ category was a runaway victory for Government Model Asaba, who amassed 86 points, doubling the tally of Benin Technical (43 points) in second place. David Ekunwe and Daniel Okwokwo played a crucial role, sweeping gold and silver medals in the 200m, 400m, and long jump. Saint John the Apostle took third place with 34 points.
Vision High dominated the Youth (U17) Girls’ category, racking up a massive 102 points. Blessing Ezeh was the standout performer, securing 20 points with her shot put and discus throw double. The Lord’s Own Int’l School (39 points) and Osadenis (31 points) completed the podium.

In the Youth Boys’ division, Government Model continued their dominance, securing 58 points ahead of Beje High School (35 points), while Vision High added to their success with a third-place finish on 28 points.
The Junior (U20) team event saw Delta State produce a commanding display, scoring 162 points to claim the title. They dominated the throws, led by Bosa David Kosisochukwu and Success Okeleke. Kosisochukwu was particularly impressive, winning gold in the shot put and javelin, along with bronze in the discus throw. HIT (94 points) and Global Power (79 points) rounded out the top three.

The Senior Team category was a fierce contest between Bayelsa and hosts Edo, with Team Bayelsa emerging victorious with 114 points, while Edo settled for second place (87 points). Team MTN (48 points) finished third.
With the conclusion to the MTN CHAMPS Benin Athletics Classics, the focus now shifts to Lagos, where the second leg is set to take place from April 9 to 12.
