Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has expressed delight after scoring his first goal of the season, but even more excited because it secured all three points for Fulham in a 2-1 win over in-form Nottingham Forest.
Bassey netted the decisive goal in the 62nd minute, rising higher than his Super Eagles teammate Ola Aina to head the ball into the net. His goal not only sealed the victory but also made Fulham the first team this season to complete a league double over Nottingham Forest.
Despite being one of Fulham’s standout performers this season, Bassey is not typically known for his goal-scoring prowess. However, after breaking his duck, the 25-year-old described the moment as a special one.
“The boys give me a bit of stick sometimes! But I have proved them wrong, I was able to get there, and for me, it’s a proud moment—first goal this season,” Bassey told Fulham.com after the game.

“But, for the team, I think we deserved it. We created a lot of chances, and I think we deserved the win. You could see we tried to control the game.”
After doubling Fulham’s lead just past the hour mark, Calvin Bassey emphasized the importance of maintaining their focus to avoid dropping points, as they had earlier in the season against Everton and West Ham United.
“We knew they’re very dangerous on the counter, so defense was very important for us, making sure we didn’t open ourselves up. We tried to be narrow, but with their goal, we weren’t narrow enough. Chris Wood—he’s on fire—and he was able to slot it home.

“But after that, we just made sure we had each other’s backs, covered for one another, controlled the ball, and took care of possession. As you can see, we created so many chances, and on another day, we could have had more than two.”
Calvin Bassey also reflected on Fulham’s recent late-game setbacks and how the team is now reaping the rewards of their hard work.
“We’ve been a bit unlucky earlier on in the season, with West Ham and Everton scoring last-minute equalizers. So I think we’re getting our luck now, but we’re working hard for it.”
