Rangers advanced to the Scottish Cup last 16 with a dominant 5-0 victory over Highland League side Fraserburgh, led by a hat-trick from Cyriel Dessers and goals from Clinton Nsiala and Ross McCausland.

A shock result was always unlikely at Ibrox, given the gulf in quality between the sides. However, Fraserburgh put up a spirited first-half performance in front of nearly 1,500 traveling fans.

Dessers had a mixed first half, missing a glaring opportunity before finally breaking the deadlock in the 27th minute. James Tavernier’s corner found the striker in space, and he nodded home to put Rangers ahead.

Fraserburgh nearly found an unlikely equaliser when debutant Rangers goalkeeper Mason Munn misplaced a pass under pressure, gifting Scott Barbour a chance. The forward’s shot slipped through Munn’s legs but rolled just past the far post. Barbour might have regretted not squaring the ball to Connor Wood, who was unmarked for a simple finish.

Fraserburgh held firm to reach halftime just one goal down, with goalkeeper Joe Barbour making a fine save to push Jefte’s strike onto the post. However, the part-time side tired in the second half, allowing Rangers to take full control.

Nsiala doubled the lead with his first professional goal, benefitting from a deflection off Jamie Beagrie. Dessers then tapped in his second after a Tavernier assist before setting up McCausland for Rangers’ fourth. He completed his hat-trick with a composed finish late on.
