Edo Queens have guaranteed themselves N500 million ($300,000) in prize money following a sensational run to the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024.

The Nigerian champions topped Group B after an unbeaten group stage campaign, where they dumped out last year’s champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Queens began their tournament in emphatic style, thrashing Ethiopia’s CBE FC 3-0 in their opener. Their second match saw them held by Egypt’s FC Masar to a goalless draw, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns. In a dramatic finale, Edo Queens stunned Sundowns with two stoppage-time goals to secure a 2-1 victory, cementing their place at the top of Group B.

With this achievement, the Queens have set up a tantalizing semi-final clash against Group A runners-up TP Mazembe of DR Congo.

Victory in that match will see them through to the final, where they will hope to double their money and vie for the $600,000 (over N1 billion) winner’s reward or go home with the $400,000 (about N660 million) runner-up prize.

The CAF Women’s Champions League, now in its fourth edition, has seen a 52% increase in prize money under the leadership of Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
