The top 89 senior athletes in Nigeria will enjoy free hotel accommodation for the MTN CHAMPS/AFN National Trials, thanks to the sponsorship of MTN.

The MTN CHAMPS/AFN National Trials, which will take place from February 17 to 21, 2024, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, is the qualifying event for the Nigerian athletics team for the upcoming African Games in Accra, Ghana.

The event will feature up to 99 track and field events across four categories: cadet, youth, junior, and senior.

The senior category, which is the first of its kind at MTN CHAMPS, will run for the first four days of the event, as the qualification deadline for the African Games is on February 20.

According to a press release by the organizers, Making of Champions, the 89 senior athletes who have been selected for the hotel sponsorship by MTN are based on their rankings and performances in previous competitions.

They must however still confirm their participation by registering online and emailing the AFN.

According to the press release, “The hotel accommodation in Asaba for the 89 Senior Athletes will be for a maximum of 4 days for the duration of each Athlete’s event(s), starting from Friday 16th to Tuesday 20th, to cover the first 3 days of the 5-day event which is when the Senior Trials is taking place.”

For the other categories, the athletes must have at least one parent or legal guardian sign the parental consent form, which can be downloaded from the same website. The form must be returned at the bib collection, which will take place on February 15 and 16, before the event starts.
