Zimbabwe National team captain Marshall Munetsi has declared that his teammates are driven to create history by defeating Nigeria when they face on Tuesday, in order to boost their chances of qualifying for the World Cup for the very first time.
Despite facing an uphill battle with a dismal record of three draws and two losses in their first five qualifying matches, leaving them at the bottom of the table with just three points, Zimbabwe still harbor hopes of achieving a historic milestone by securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
In his pre-match press conference, captain Marshall Munetsi emphasized the team’s mindset ahead of their clash with Nigeria: “Obviously Nigeria is a much bigger country in terms of football. Zimbabwe qualifying for the World Cup will probably be a bigger feat for us than Nigeria, that’s why I think all the guys want to do something historical, something that has never been done by our country.”

Munetsi reemphasized that the desire to make history is a driving force for the team despite the setbacks and challenges: “This is something that drives us, something that gives us the energy to compete. Obviously we didn’t start the qualification as we would have wanted, we lost some points away and we’re not privileged like Nigeria to play our home games at home.”
“So now, we take pleasure like the coach has said. As much as the crowd will be there, it’s also good for us because we have guys who have played internationally,” he added.

Munetsi concluded by stressing the team’s determination to make their mark: “I think it’s gonna be a good game for both sides. I hope you guys also enjoy and know that we’re not here just for holiday but to make our own history.”
The clash between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Zimbabwe’s Warriors is scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Tuesday, March 25 by 5pm Nigerian time.
