Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has commended his Galatasaray teammates for winning the Turkish Cup, but has called on them to remain focused as they aim to clinch the league title with a victory over Kayserispor on Sunday.

Galatasaray claimed their 19th Turkish Cup title and their first since 2019 in impressive fashion, cruising to a 3-0 victory over Trabzonspor at the Gaziantep Stadium, with Baris Alper Yilmaz opening the scoring early and Victor Osimhen netting twice.

However, the newly crowned cup winners now have an opportunity to claim their sixth domestic double and their first since the 2018–19 season when they captured the league title and went on to beat Akhisarspor 3–1 in the Turkish Cup final.

Galatasaray, currently leading the table with 86 points, hold an eight-point advantage over second-placed Fenerbahçe with three games left to play. Therefore, a victory against Kayserispor on Sunday or a Fenerbahçe loss to Eyüpspor would see the 24-time champions secure the Turkish League title once again.

Following their cup triumph, Osimhen applauded his teammates for their efforts but highlighted the need to remain focused on winning the league, urging the team to give everything to accomplish that goal.

“First of all a big congratulations to the team, the objective has been clear since I came here. This is a really ambitious club, to be a Galatasaray player is to be attached with a lot of trophies and passion from the fans,” the Super Eagles striker said.

“We did amazingly well. Respect to the opponents, they gave us a hard time. Just like I said earlier, we deserve it. Now we have this cup, the next one is to get the fifth star, which is important in everyone’s career here including the coach and players.”

“I’m really happy to contribute with two goals but I wouldn’t take the credit alone. All my teammates gave their all to make sure we achieve this objective today.”

“For me, the next thing is on Sunday, to make sure we get the win also, to go all out for every ball, to fight as a team just as we’ve done from the start of the season.”

“For me it’s important to be able to contribute either by scoring, assisting or giving my all for the team. But the most important thing is to get the fifth star and we’re almost there, just 99% done and then we have to give everything to make sure we achieve it,” Osimhen concluded.

Victor Osimhen not only won the cup but was also named the best player of the tournament and will now be aiming to add the league’s Golden Boot and Best Player award to his accolades — a remarkable achievement that could cement his legacy in the hearts of Galatasaray fans forever.
