Former Super Eagles striker and AFCON winner Brown Ideye, has called on fans to support the National team as they attempt to revive their struggling World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Super Eagles are currently facing a precarious situation in their World Cup qualifying group, sitting fifth in Group C after three draws and one loss, trailing Rwanda, Benin, and South Africa by four points.
Due to their underwhelming start, The Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the World Cup are dwindling, and they need to win both upcoming matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe on March 21 and 25, respectively, to stay in contention.
In a bid to mobilize support for the team, Brown Ideye, who now plays for Enyimba in the NPFL, took to his X account, emphasizing that with the right backing and the team’s talent, anything can be achieved.
“If you’re a huge fan of the Super Eagles, now is the time to show it, the team will need all your support. Everything is possible in football, we have the talents that can turn things around,” Ideye wrote.
Asides the World Cup qualifiers, Ideye’s focus will also be on helping Enyimba secure a top-four finish in the league, which would earn them a spot in continental football next season.
Following their thrilling 2-2 draw with Ikorodu City, “The People’s Elephants” currently occupy eighth place in the league standings, trailing the in-form “Oga Boys” who sit fourth by just three points.
