Sporting Lagos part ways with Saturday Okon, five others

Sporting Lagos has parted ways with forward Saturday Okon along with five other players during the January transfer window.

Okon, a beloved figure among fans of the Lagos-Island-based club, played a pivotal role in securing their promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

According to a statement released on the club’s website, “With four goals, Saturday Okon was one of our top scorers in the 2023 NNL season. His last-minute goal against Stormers SC remains one of the most memorable moments for the club, solidifying our status as top-flight contenders.”

Throughout the season, Okon made 11 league appearances, starting in six matches.

Additionally, midfielder Odafi Emmanuel, stand-in captain Abiodun Balogun, and players Godwin Udoh, Onyeka Ojieh, and Osan Mamah are also departing from the club.

The statement concludes with well-wishes for all departing players, stating, “The club extends its best wishes to all the players in their future endeavors. They will forever remain a part of the Sporting Lagos family.”
