Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has emerged as the most searched footballer for the month of May, according to recent data released by statistics platform Transfermarkt.
The Nigerian international claimed the top spot after a stellar run of form for Turkish champions Galatasaray, where he netted six goals in five appearances during May. His contributions were instrumental in helping the club secure a domestic double—winning both the Turkish Super Lig title and the Turkish Cup, the latter for the first time since 2019.
Osimhen’s impressive campaign saw him finish as the league’s top scorer with 26 goals, and he was also honoured as the Player of the Season. Across all competitions, the Super Eagles star amassed a remarkable tally of 37 goals and seven assists.

Off the pitch, Osimhen has also dominated headlines amid growing transfer speculation. With his loan spell at Galatasaray officially over, the striker turned down a massive offer from Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, reportedly worth €45 million per year, opting instead to pursue opportunities within Europe.
As fans and pundits speculate over his next destination, interest in the forward has surged. Galatasaray supporters remain hopeful the club can secure him on a permanent basis, driving a spike in online searches and fueling his prominence in digital trends.
Transfermarkt reports that Osimhen recorded 935,021 online searches in May, surpassing Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who had 631,507 searches.
Galatasaray’s veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera ranked third with 540,974 searches, followed by rising Turkish star Arda Güler (354,529) and Barcelona’s magnificent winger Lamine Yamal (278,226), who rounded out the top five.
Completing the top ten were football icon Lionel Messi (233,503), Spain’s Álvaro Morata (211,985), Galatasaray’s Mauro Icardi (204,184), Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane (179,063), and Leroy Sané (176,217), who recently joined Galatasaray from the Bundesliga.
