Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espírito Santo has provided an update on Ola Aina’s injury status, after the Nigerian fullback was substituted in the first half of their 1-0 win over Manchester United on Tuesday.

Nottingham Forest continued their remarkable form against Manchester United as former Red Devil Anthony Elanga scored to give the home side an early lead five minutes into the game. However, they suffered a setback as Ola Aina pulled up injured in the 36th minute, leading to a double substitution.

Despite the changes, Forest went on to defeat Ruben Amorim’s side, completing a first league double over Manchester United for the first time since the 1991-92 season.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Nuno Espírito Santo expressed his concern over Aina’s fitness but added that a scan will be needed to determine the extent of the injury.

”We will have to access. It’s always a concern when a player injures by himself, so we are going to scan and see how it is,” the gaffer said. “We’re not quite sure (Calf-related injury), I think only the scan will say exactly,” he added.

The head coach also provided an update on leading goalscorer Chris Wood who sustained an injury during the international break: ”Like I said before, it’s gonna be day by day. He’s getting better, today the feedback is that he’s better, tomorrow hopefully he’ll be better, but he is going to be accessed day by day.”

Nottingham Forest will be hoping that Ola Aina’s injury is only a minor one as they will need him — as well as the other injured players — fit for the rest of the season in a bid to achieve Champions League qualification.
