Super Eagles winger, Moses Simon recorded his ninth assist of the season, helping Nantes secure a crucial 2-1 victory over Nice in their Ligue 1 clash at the Allianz Riviera on Friday.
Nantes came into the match looking to bounce back after a disappointing 3-2 loss to Le Havre. However, they faced a determined Nice side who were also desperate for victory after three games without a win, affecting their Champions League qualification prospects.
Nice, who had only lost one home game in the league this season, were stunned in the 11th minute as Moses Simon assisted Douglas Augusto to give the visitors an early lead. However, the home side quickly recovered, with Ali Abdi’s strike leveling the scoreline three minutes later.
Few minutes before half-time, Nantes regained their lead as Matthis Abline scored his eighth Ligue 1 goal this season, giving the Canaries a slender but crucial advantage going into the second half.

The second half saw Nice dominate possession in a desperate attempt to level the scoreline once again. Nonetheless, Nantes remained impregnable, holding onto their one-goal lead until the full-time whistle, ultimately securing three points away from home.
Despite winning, Nantes remain 13th on the table, but they are now on 30 points in 28 games, six points clear of Le Havre who sit 16th. Meanwhile, Nice remain fourth with 47 points, but face the prospect of dropping to sixth, putting their Champions League qualification hopes in jeopardy.
Moses Simon’s ninth league assist means he is now the joint-highest assister in Ligue 1, tied with Rayan Cherki and Bradley Barcola. As the summer transfer window approaches, the Nigerian winger’s standout displays are likely to attract the attention of several European clubs eager to acquire his services.
