Wilfred Ndidi’s Leicester City have become the first side in Football League history to lose eight home games in a row without scoring, following their disappointing 3-0 loss to Newcastle at the King Power Stadium on Monday.
With relegation from the Premier League all but confirmed, Leicester City came into the clash against Newcastle playing for pride, hoping to secure just their third home win this season. However, a brace from Jacob Murphy and a goal from Harvey Barnes sealed Newcastle’s win, increasing their Champions League qualification hopes.
The crushing 3-0 defeat dealt a severe blow to Leicester’s Premier League survival hopes, as they remained 19th with 17 points, 15 points behind Wolves who sit 17th. The home loss also led to them setting some unwanted records.

Asides becoming the first side in Football League history to lose eight home games in a row without scoring, Leicester also became only the second side in top-flight history to go eight home games in a row without scoring (after Manchester City between January and May 2007).
Leicester City’s loss further marked a historic low for the club, as they suffered their 11th home defeat in a single league season — a first in the club’s history.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy‘s side will be eager to end their poor losing streak when they travel to face Brighton in their next Premier League game on Saturday, April 12. Their next home game will be on April 20 when they face off against league leaders Liverpool.
It remains uncertain if Wilfred Ndidi will remain at Leicester after their poor return to the Premier League. The Nigerian midfielder was linked to Monaco in January and it is expected that the French side, alongside other European teams may take advantage of Leicester’s potential relegation to sign the 28-year-old.
