Nigerian basketball prospect Reuben Abuchi Chinyelu scored eight points and eight rebounds in his first competitive game for the Washington State University basketball team ‘The Cougars’ in their 84-59 victory over Idaho in an NCAA season opener on Monday night (Tuesday Nigerian time).
The freshman was in the starting five for the Cougars and was on the court for 21 minutes. Aside from the eight points and eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and three blocks, the most in the game.

Andrej Jakimovski led the Cougars with 23 points, hitting 3 three-pointers on eight attempts. Freshman Myles Rice finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists while Isaac Jones also had 13 points, along with nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Chinyelu, a former Nigerian national U-16 star was one of the most sought-after players from the NBA Academy camp in Senegal. Over 10 colleges in the United States including Tennessee, Florida, Kansas, Georgia, Rutgers, Mississippi State, Memphis, Maryland, Santa Clara before opting for Washington State.
The Nigerian would be hoping to continue his impressive performance against Texas’ Prairie View A&M University on Thursday.
