The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has released a 20-woman preliminary roster for the upcoming 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, scheduled to take place from July 22 to August 3 at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

D’Tigress, four-time defending champions, will be aiming to make history as the first country to win five consecutive Afrobasket titles. The NBBF named a strong preliminary squad on Wednesday, ahead of the team’s preparation for the tournament.

As part of their build-up, D’Tigress will feature in a homecoming series in Abuja later in July, where they are set to face Kenya and Togo in tune-up games.

The 20 invited players include guards Promise Amukamara, Ezinne Kalu, Ifunaya Okoro, Elizabeth Balogun, Grace Efosa, Solape Amusan, Abiodun Damilola Yusuf, Adenike Olawuyi Olayemi, Amy Okonkwo, Nicole Enabosi, and Pallas Kunayi.

Also named are Phoenix Mercury forward Murjanatu Musa, Gift Uchenna, Victoria Macaulay, Christabel O. Ezumah, Izoje Uche, Lauren Ebo, Ugonne Onyiah, Vera Ojenuwa, and Blessing Ejiofor.

The team will be led by Chicago Sky assistant coach Rena Wakama. The final 12-player roster will be selected from the preliminary list. This announcement effectively ends earlier proposals by the NBBF to hold an open camp for player selection.

Despite their tight schedule with WNBA franchises, the NBBF had exclusively confirmed to Bold Sports that head coach Rena Wakama and power forward Murjanatu Musa will be available for the competition, to the excitement of basketball fans in the country.
