Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has earned a nomination for Atalanta’s 2024–25 Goal of the Season, courtesy of his impressive finishes against Real Madrid and Empoli.
Lookman’s strike against Real Madrid came in a thrilling 3-2 defeat in the Champions League. Despite goals from Madrid’s formidable trio — Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, and Jude Bellingham — that had put Los Blancos ahead 3-1, Lookman pulled one back in the match, firing a shot which went through Lucas Vázquez’s legs and beat Thibaut Courtois at the near post, giving the visitors a late scare.
His second nominated goal came during Atalanta’s dominant 5-0 win at Empoli’s Stadio Carlo Castellani. With the team already leading 2-0, Lookman capped off the first half with a clever goal, latching onto a sublime pass from Mateo Retegui, dribbling past the goalkeeper, and calmly passing the ball into an empty net.

He scored again early in the second half to make it 4-0, further cementing his impact on the match. In addition to the goals, Lookman was named Man of the Match in both games, underlining his increasing importance to Atalanta’s attacking unit.
The Goal of the Season contest will follow a knockout format, starting with a Round of 16 where each goal faces off against another. Winners progress to the quarterfinals, then semifinals, and eventually the final.
Lookman’s goal against Real Madrid has been paired with Marten de Roon’s effort versus Genoa, while his Empoli goal will compete against Ederson’s decisive strike against AC Milan.
