…Josh Maja scored 12 goals in 2024/25 season
Former Leeds United midfielder David Prutton has emphasized that West Brom’s hopes of securing promotion back to the Premier League next season will heavily depend on retaining striker Josh Maja and keeping him fit.
Josh Maja had a mixed campaign for West Bromwich Albion in the 2024/25 season, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists in 26 appearances. However, a calf injury in January cut his season short, ultimately derailing the Baggies’ push for a playoff spot.
The one-cap Super Eagles forward started the season in blistering form, netting seven goals in his first seven matches. But his momentum was disrupted by two extended goal droughts, followed by the season-ending injury.

Despite the setbacks, Maja’s performance was a strong indication of his potential. With greater consistency and better fitness management, he could emerge as one of the league’s top scorers and play a pivotal role in guiding West Brom back to the top flight.
With just 12 months remaining on his current contract, Prutton urged the club to do everything possible to keep Maja and ensure he remains fit throughout the season.
“The unfortunate thing with Josh is you need to keep him fit,” Prutton told Football League World. “He’s had problems with that over the course of the season and was a big miss once he’d been ruled out.
“You get the feeling that, pro rata, based on the goals he scored, if he’d had a full season, he’d be right up there among the top scorers. So, I think it’s vital they keep Maja.”
