Southampton and Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo, has expressed his delight with being called up to the national team again, revealing his eagerness to contribute to the team’s objective of defeating Rwanda in their World Cup qualifying match
Aribo’s last appearance for the Super Eagles was in the 2023 African Cup of Nations final, where he came on for Zaidu Sanusi in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, Nigeria lost the final to Ivory Coast 2-1 and since then, Aribo has not played for the team due to other midfielders being preferred over him.
However, Aribo’s fortunes have recently changed with his inclusion in the 23-man squad released by Eric Chelle, and in a chat with football journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, the 28-year-old shared his excitement: “It’s a really good feeling, I’m happy to be back, happy to get involved with my team and get the results we are looking for.”
Aribo also expressed his confidence in the team’s new head coach, Eric Chelle, stating: “It’s a good feeling, we believe in what he wants from us, what he wants to implement in the game, we just have to believe in what he says to us on the pitch and take it through into the games.”

Aribo acknowledged the team’s hard work and the need to adapt quickly to the coach’s instructions: “We are working hard, we have to work fast with the manager because it’s only a certain amount of training sessions that we are going to have before the game. We have to listen to what he says, take in his points, and implement it during the game.”
Aribo and his teammates will be desperate for a win against Rwanda as the Super Eagles are currently struggling in their World Cup qualifying group, sitting fifth in Group C with three draws and one loss, trailing Rwanda, Benin, and South Africa by four points.
Due to their poor start, the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualification hopes is at risk, and they face a must-win situation in their upcoming matches against Rwanda on March 21 and Zimbabwe on March 25 to keep their chances alive.
