Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has scored his first goal for Middlesbrough, helping the Championship side secure a crucial 2-1 victory against Oxford United on Saturday.

Middlesbrough came into the match seeking to maintain their momentum after one loss in their last five games. However, they faced an Oxford side who were looking to secure consecutive victories after nine games without a win.

Despite dominating most of the game, Middlesbrough went behind against the run of play as Michal Helik’s goal put Oxford in front at the 38th minute, giving them the lead until halftime.

The second half saw Middlesbrough step up their intensity in search of an equalizer. They eventually leveled the scoreline in the 48th minute as January signings, Samuel Illing-Junior and Kelechi Iheanacho combined to boost the home side’s hopes of securing a win.

With the game heading for a draw, Middlesbrough struck once again in the 80th minute as Samuel Illing-Junior contributed with his second assist, crossing the ball to Neto Borges who scored the winning goal with a brilliant finish to claim all three points.

The result means Middlesbrough have now climbed up to seventh on the table with 57 points in 39 games. Meanwhile, Oxford sit 19th with 42 points in the same number of games.

Middlesbrough will aim to continue their impressive form, hoping to secure another win when they face off against Blackburn on Friday. On the other hand, Oxford will seek to bounce back when they host Sheffield United on Saturday.
