Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo ended his goal drought, scoring a crucial goal to help Al-Wehda secure a 3-1 victory over Al-Raed in their Saudi Pro League clash on Thursday.
Ighalo had gone eight games without scoring, but he was once again entrusted with leading the attack as Al-Wehda sought to break a nine-game winless streak that had left them at the bottom of the league.
Al-Raed compounded Al-Wehda’s misery by taking an early lead through Karim El Berkaoui’s 16th-minute goal, but the home side quickly equalized with Saad Bguir’s goal to increase their hopes of a comeback.
Despite both teams creating scoring opportunities, the first half ended in a draw before Al-Wehda made two substitutions at the start of the second half, bringing in Alexandru Cretu and Ali Al-Salem, in an effort to complete the comeback and secure a much-needed win.
With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Ighalo scored his fifth league goal of the season to give Al-Wehda the lead. His goal boosted the team’s momentum, and they sealed the much-needed victory with another strike from Alexandru Cretu in the 90th minute.

The win is a crucial one for Al-Wehda, who are fighting to avoid relegation with 10 games remaining. Although they still sit at the bottom of the league, they are now just two points behind Al Fateh, who occupy 15th position.
With their winless streak ended, Ighalo and his teammates will be motivated to secure another victory in their next Saudi Pro League clash against Al Khaleej on Friday, March 14.
