Brown Ideye was the hero for Enyimba scoring a brace in their 2-0 win over Kwara United in Aba to increase their chances of picking one of the automatic CAF competition qualification spot.
The former Super Eagles forward gave the hosts the leadbin the 12th minute before doubling the People’s Elephants lead on the stroke of half time.
The brace takes Ideye’s hoals tally to four in eight league appearances this season.
The win takes them to 55 points and two points behind third placed neighbours Abia Warriors who earned. 1-1 draw against Niger Tornadoes away from home as they hope to hold on to their third position.
After missing out on the trophy this season, Enyimba will be hoping they can claim one of the automatic slot for the CAF competitions.
In other games played on Wednesday, El Kanemi Warriors beat newly crowned champions Remo Stars 2-0, Nasarawa United pipped Lobi Stars 2-1 away from home.
Katsina United beat Kano Pillars 1-0, Shooting Stars downed southwest neighbours Sunshine Stars 1-0 in Ibadan, Bendel Insurance pipped Akwa United 1-0 while Rivers United increased their hold on second place with a 1-0 win over Enugu Rangers while Heartland earned a 2-0 win over Plateau United.
