Nigeria’s women’s 4x400m relay team might have missed out competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics after failing to qualify despite winning gold at the CAA African Senior Championship in Douala, Cameroon.
The Nigerian quartet needed a time better than 3:26.08 to surpass Cuba, ranked 16th on the World Athletics Top List. However, they could only manage a time of 3:27.31.
Ella Onojuvwevwo, Patience Okon-George, Esther Elo Joseph, and Omolara Ogunmakinju defeated Botswana and Zambia to claim the gold medal but fell short of the Olympic qualification time by 1.23 seconds.
Bold Sports had previously reported that the Nigerian women’s 4x400m relay team was unable to qualify for the Olympics at the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas. Unlike other teams, they didn’t participate in the heats due to an incomplete squad.
The still have till June 30 – which is the qualification deadline by World Athletics – to try to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
