Former Zimbabwe captain Knowledge Musona is confident that the Warriors have what it takes to revive their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign. He revealed that their goal is to secure the maximum six points in their upcoming matches against Benin and Nigeria.

The 34-year-old, who retired from international football after representing Zimbabwe at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), was recalled by new head coach Michael Nees to help the team revive their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Warriors will face joint Group C leaders Benin at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Thursday, aiming for their first win of the qualifiers. They will then travel to Uyo to take on Nigeria’s Super Eagles on March 25 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Musona, who currently plays as a left winger for Al-Okhdood in the Saudi Pro League, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance after his first training session back with the squad. He remains optimistic that they can secure vital victories in both fixtures.

“I’m happy to be back and looking forward to the upcoming games. My first training session was good, and I’ve seen a lot of quality,” Musona told the press ahead of Thursday’s match against Benin.

“I think the future is bright for the Warriors, and I’m eager to help these young players and contribute to their development.

“In football, anything is possible, and it starts with this next game. The priority is to secure three points against Benin before focusing on Nigeria.

“With the quality in this squad, I believe we can achieve maximum points. It all depends on the effort we put in during training and, most importantly, in the matches.

“I strongly believe in this team, and personally, I would love for us to win both games to keep our World Cup qualification hopes alive,” added the former Augsburg forward.

Zimbabwe currently sit at the bottom of Group C with just two points from their first four matches.
