Morocco is set to host the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, where eight top African clubs, including Nigeria’s Edo Queens, will compete for a prize pool of $400,000.
The tournament, scheduled for November 9-23, 2024, marks the return of the competition to Morocco, which successfully hosted the 2022 edition.
The reigning champions, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, will aim to defend their title, having won the prestigious competition twice in three years. Also among the favorites is Morocco’s ASFAR, who lifted the trophy in 2022.
The 2024 edition will see teams from six different African zones competing alongside ASFAR and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The qualified clubs include Edo Queens (Nigeria), Aigles de la Medina (Senegal), University of Western Cape (South Africa), Tutankhamun (Egypt), CBE FC (Ethiopia), and TP Mazembe (DR Congo).
Winners will take home $400,000, while the runners-up will receive $250,000.
The tournament has been pivotal in raising the profile of women’s football across Africa, with Morocco’s successful hosting of the 2022 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations adding further momentum.
